Why we love Japanese Food

Since moving here to Okinawa I've tried many things out of vending machines and at restaurants. Some have been fantastic, some have been unexpected and only a few others have been completely horrible. We've had a really busy weekend full of food, and now that I'm finally willing to sit down at the computer and do some writing I see that there is so much to talk about. I will start with Friday. Of course Gabriella had her swimming lesson in the morning and for the first time it didn't rain on her. Of course it rained before and after the swim lesson.  After her lesson we headed home for a quick breakfast and then off to hula.  After hula class we raced to our playgroup activity. This week it was at Mona Kids Jungle.  We've been there before and we love it. Gabriella loves it because she gets to play in this huge indoor play area with her playgroup friends.  I love it because they have great vending machine snacks. Friday we got our favorite, miso flavored cup of noodles. It's the coolest vending machine ever, first you select your soup, it drops down from the vending machine, then there is a little hot water dispenser right on the vending machine and it also has a chopstick dispenser.  As a special treat Gabriella got a popsicle for dessert, it is pictured above.  The popsicle had candy embedded in it that reacted like pop rocks, it made your mouth fizz. It was the most bizarre popsicle I've ever tried, but Gabriella finished every bit of it, then asked if we could take one home for daddy. Sadly the 80 degree weather did not prove conducive to taking home an extra popsicle.
Later that evening we arrived home exhausted. I called Greg at work and casually asked if he was interested in going out to dinner, because I was too tired to cook.  We decided that sushi sounded perfect. We went to Zen Sushi and met up with the Broom Family. All the kids had a great time playing and eating there sushi, edamame, and miso soup.  The restaurant serves american style sushi rolls. So far it's my favorite place to go for spicy tuna rolls.  Next time we go I'm getting  the Zen Roll, it's the chef's choice and changes daily. Fridays special came with pink rice.  We went to bed that night deliciously full with no dirty dishes from dinner.
